Wiseman, a seasoned naval aviator and test pilot, was selected to be a NASA astronaut in 2009 and will lead the Artemis II mission. Hansen, a fighter pilot chosen by the Canadian Space Agency in 2009, is set to be the first Canadian to travel to deep space. Glover, a naval aviator and veteran of multiple military squadrons, will bring his expertise from SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft back to outer space. Koch, recognized for her numerous spacewalks and electric engineering skills, will contribute her experience to the Artemis II team.
The Artemis II mission is expected to build on the success of Artemis I, paving the way for the return of astronauts to the moon and eventually to Mars. The crew will launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida and will be the first humans to travel to deep space in history.
This monumental journey will last about ten days, taking the crew beyond the moon before returning them back to Earth for a splashdown landing in the Pacific Ocean. The Artemis II mission is a stepping stone to Artemis III, which aims to land the first woman and person of color on the lunar surface later in the decade.
