The recently unveiled quartet of astronauts set to lead the crewed moon mission brings together a remarkable team for the historic Artemis II lunar flyby in November 2024. NASA’s Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, along with Jeremy Hansen of the Canadian Space Agency, will embark on this groundbreaking mission.

Wiseman, a decorated naval aviator and test pilot, will lead the Artemis II mission after serving as chief of the astronaut office. At the same time, Hansen, a Canadian astronaut, is set to become the first Canadian to travel to deep space.

Glover, a naval aviator with a background in military squadrons, will bring his experience of piloting spaceflights to this mission. Koch, a veteran of spacewalks and expert electrical engineer, holds the record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman.

The Artemis II mission follows the success of Artemis I, further advancing NASA’s journey towards deep space exploration. Expected to launch in November 2024, this mission will see the crew venture out beyond the moon, setting the stage for future missions that will see humans return to the lunar surface.

As NASA continues its efforts to explore and establish a permanent presence on the moon, the Artemis program is a crucial step towards reaching Mars. The diversity of the Artemis II crew, including both men and women, showcases NASA’s commitment to inclusivity and innovation in space exploration.
